Chelsea vs Barcelona (UCL, round of 16 first leg): Preview and predictions

Image
Look at the image above. I'm sure you remember exactly where you were, and exactly what you were doing when this happened. When Fernando Torres found himself in the clear with no Barcelona defender in sight, every Chelsea fan's heart was pounding out of his/her chest. The tension was incredible. Then, when the Spaniard then rounded Victor Valdes and rolled the ball home to take us through to the final, all that tension transformed into mad exhilaration. We all shouted at the top of our voices and went completely ballistic, as did the few thousands in the top-tier of the Nou Camp on that fateful day. It was a journey like no other, one that culminated in lifting the Champions League, the unachievable holy grail for so long for Chelsea Football Club. Now, six years later, we're back at the start again, with a dream that would seem completely unattainable were it not for that little voice in our heads that says - "We've done this before, you know?" Tim...

West Bromwich Albion 0-4 Chelsea review: Blues march on under new system

Scorers: Morata 17', Hazard 23', 62', Marcos Alonso 38' It is incredible how much one player can completely turn the tide in a team. N'Golo Kante's return from injury saw Antonio Conte switch to a 3-5-2 formation against Manchester United in the last game, with the Frenchman paired with Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas in midfield. Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard started up front, and we completely dominated Jose Mourinho's men at Stamford Bridge en route to taking all three points. This was on the back of a 3-0 defeat to AS Roma in the Champions League, a result that sent alarm bells ringing around the fan base. Yesterday we returned to The Hawthorns, the ground where Michy Batshuayi won us the league last season. On that day, we were made to work hard for our win by Tony Pulis' men. This time around, it was as smooth-sailing as can be. Conte fielded the exact same starting XI as the United game, benching David Luiz once again in favour of Andrea...

Crystal Palace preview: Time for our Belgians to step up

Image
Date - 14 October, 2017 Time -19:30 IST Venue - Selhurst Park, London Our next Premier League assignment takes us to Selhurst Park to take on 20th-placed Crystal Palace. The Eagles are yet to score a single goal, and will be looking to avoid becoming the first club in the history of the Premier League to lose each of its first 8 games. For Chelsea, it is a question of redemption, as we look to bounce back from the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City last time out. We are now 7 points behind the two Manchester clubs at the top, and hardly have any margin for error if we want to have any chance at successfully defending our title. This was the exact same point in the season at which we began our 13-match unbeaten run last year. Click here to see what the Amdavadi Blues think our chances are of repeating that feat.  This corresponding fixture was one of those 13 matches last year, when a header from Diego Costa was enough for all three points. Palace, did however, shoc...

Can we replicate our winning streak from last season? (Fans' thoughts)

Four wins, one draw and two losses. This was the exact same record with which we went into the second international break of the season last year. Nobody really gave us any chance of challenging for the league title, and a lot of the fans would have taken a top 4 finish. The rest, as they say, is history. Antonio Conte wrung the changes, and switched to a three-man defence. We always he would do this eventually, but the sudden move at half-time in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal was more out of desperation than anything else. When we took to the pitch next, against Hull City, everything was different. We got both a win and a clean sheet, but no one could have fathomed the extent to which our fortunes had changed. For the rest of October, and the whole of both November and December, we didn't drop a single point. In a streak that spanned thirteen games, we went from being stark outsiders to heavy favourites for the title. Despite seeing the dream run coming to an end at White Hart Lane...

Stoke City 0-4 Chelsea: ALVARO MORATAAAA!

Image
Scorers: Morata 2', 78', 82', Pedro 30' It was the absolute perfect start to a taxing week for Chelsea, as the Blues thumped Stoke City 4-0 at the bet265 Stadium on Saturday. This was thanks to a first ever Blues hattrick by Alvaro Morata , who made the most of a makeshift Stoke backline to run riot. Also, all three of his strikes came with his foot, after three headers to start the season. His tally for the season in the Premier League now stands at 6, joint-top with Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Aguero from the Manchester clubs. Pedro was the other goalscorer, with his first of the season. The Match Antonio Conte decided to go with Tiemoue Bakayoko and N'Golo Kante in midfield, as we'd predicted . The French duo gave us power and thrust, and did a great job of keeping Stoke at bay in the opening period. There was also a start for Andreas Christensen in place of the suspended David Luiz, with captain Gary Cahill on the bench. Eden Hazard started...
